Course Structure
This course features 3 structured modules and 22 quizzes, designed to help you understand the legal profession in England and Wales and develop your Legal English vocabulary.
- Module 1: Lawyers – Learn about lawyers, their work and their professional roles.
- Module 2: Barristers – Explore the role and responsibilities of barristers.
- Module 3: Solicitors – Learn about solicitors and their work.
Work through the modules at your own pace, completing the lessons and quizzes as you go.
How to complete the lessons
Start by opening a lesson in the Course Content section. Work through the learning materials and complete the quizzes to check your understanding of the legal profession and practise your Legal English.
If a lesson contains a video, you can use the player controls to pause, replay or adjust the playback speed. For instructions on using the video player, see below.
When you answer a set of questions, make sure you click Finish Quiz.
Next, you will see your results. If you achieve at least 51% you can click Continue. If you do not achieve 51% you must Restart Quiz. If you want to check your answers, click View Questions.
Complete each section
Make sure you complete all the required activities before moving on to the next section. Where a Mark as Complete button appears, click it to record your progress.
Vocabulary Acquisition
In the Vocabulary Acquisition section you will find flashcards. Click on the flashcard to get the other side and click the arrow to move to the next flashcard. You can change the mode of study clicking the Choose a study mode button. You do not need to create a Quizlet account, but if prompted to do so, you may create a free account. Note:
Flashcards: You can flip through your cards with unlimited, full access.
Match: You can play the matching game as many times as they want.
Learn and Test: There are strict limits.
You may find that some words repeat in different sections. This is to help you to keep learning and not forget vocabulary. You may also find that sometimes a specific definition is given for the word because it is in a specific context, even though the word may have a wider meaning.
Next, you will be tested on the vocabulary in gap fill exercises.
Optional Extra Activities
In some parts, you have a series of optional practical exercises. The marks you receive do not count towards your final mark in the course. This is because it is a space for you to practise and not be tested. Make sure you mark each exercise as complete before clicking Finish Quiz. Tips for best results:
Listening part:
Headphones are recommended for the Listening part. The Listening part marks very strictly, you do not need to use punctuation, but you do need to use capital letters.
Speaking part:
A microphone is recommended for the Speaking part. Wait a few seconds before you start saying the words as your microphone may not be engaged immediately. Speak slowly and clearly.
Writing part:
If you do not want to write full sentences, you can also write down as many words as you can remember from the module.
Track progress
You can track your progress by clicking My account in the top right side of the website.
On your profile, you can see your certificates for completed courses, and see the quizzes you have completed in courses.
Alternatively, in the course itself, you can see your progress using the side bar.

At the bottom of most sections of the course you can find a comment box. Leave a comment if you are not sure about something, you have a problem, or question.
