Instructions
1.Listen to the full podcast ‘Introduction to arbitration’ above on either YouTube or Spotify. This podcast includes all the parts from this module that you have studied. Or alternatively watch the relevant extract below (the first video).
2. If you need to, you may want to listen while following with the transcript and vocabulary list.
3. On YouTube, you can change the playback speed to make the video faster or slower, click on ‘Settings‘ and ‘Playback Speed‘.

Please note that since the podcast was recorded there have been some changes:
- The “equivalent means route” to becoming a solicitor has largely been replaced by the SQE (Solicitors Qualifying Examination), which is now the main qualification route in England and Wales.
- The role of paralegals is also evolving, as many now work in long-term careers rather than only as a stepping stone.
- “Her Majesty’s Courts & Tribunals Service” is now called His Majesty’s Courts & Tribunals Service (HMCTS)
- Some roles (like court reporting) are increasingly supported by modern technology and AI.
- The term “outdoor clerk” is not used very much nowadays, the role is often taken on by other positions such as paralegals and legal assistants.
