| Amend the law | To make a change to the law. | After they amended the law, the rules were clearer. |
| Enact a Bill | To make the Bill into an Act of Parliament. | Once the Bill passes through Parliament and receives Royal Assent, the Bill is then enacted. |
| Come into force | To start to have legal effect. | The Act came into force after receiving Royal Assent. |
| Give Royal Assent | For the Monarch to approve a Bill so that it becomes an Act of Parliament. | Elizabeth II is the previous monarch who gave the Act Royal Assent. |
| Pass through Parliament | To go through the legislative stages in Parliament. | The Bill had already passed through the previous legislative stages in Parliament. |
| Receive Royal Assent | For an Act or Bill to receive formal approval from the Monarch. | It was the 22nd statute to receive royal assent in that year. |
