Word of the Week: To Arraign (verb)

Study Legal English Word of the Week: Arraign
Definition: To ask the defendant to make a plea after he has been identified and the indictment read out detailing the charges against him or her. It is required for all cases on indictment. In England, the arraignment (noun) normally happens at a pre-trial hearing called the Plea and Trial Preparation Hearing.
Example: At the pre-trial hearing the defendant was arraigned.
